All regularly occuring activities for the WMC will begin and end 30 minutes earlier than the usual schedule.

  • Every Sunday, evening meditation gatherings will begin at 6:30 p.m.
  • Third Sunday dharma classes will begin at 5:15 p.m.
  • Last Sunday newcomers' orientations will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Vihara

    Sitting and walking meditation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
    Dharma Discussion from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
    Social Time from 8:30 to 9 p.m.

    Newcomers Orientation: Last Sunday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Vihara.

    Dharma classes will be offered at the Vihara the third Sunday of each month from 5:45 to 6:45 pm. Topics and facilitators will be announced the week prior on the WMC listserv.

    The WMC holds family and friends getaway retreats at Charter Hall, in Perryville, Md., three times per year, typically in late spring, early fall, and mid-winter. Information about these retreats is distributed via the WMC listserv.

    Our annual ceremony of remembrance is held the first Sunday of November each year.

    The Mindful Parenting Group meets once a month, usually on the 1st Tuesday of the month in Northwest D.C. from 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm. Meeting includes 15-minute sit, plus mindful discussion of a variety of topics about the joys and challenges of parenting (infants to teens).     The Still Water Mindfulness Practice Center offers regular classes on mindfulness practice. Go to the Still Water webpage to find out the dates for upcoming classes.

    The Art and the Practice of Mindfulness: Come and share your experiences of art and the practice of mindfulness. Explore together art as the practice as we paint, write, make music...and whatever else inspires your creativity. Please bring anything creative you would like to share.

    Retreats

    Upcoming WMC Retreats:

    First WMC Day of Mindfulness, October 28, 2007, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wellspring Conference Center, 11411 Neelsville Church Rd., Germantown, Md.
    Bring a dish for vegetarian potluck lunch, utensils/plate and cushion. Activities will include guided meditation, Qi Gong, walking meditation, potluck lunch in silence, dharma panel and small group dharma discussions, tea ceremony, children's activities and lots of singing and smiling throughout.

    Winter Silent Retreat: Jan. 11-13, 2008, a silent, adults-only retreat, at Charter Hall, on the Susquehanna River in Maryland. The January retreat will focus on deepening our practice together. The schedule will include generous amounts of silence, sitting and walking meditation, meal preparation and enjoyment, dharma sharing and free time to explore in our own way. (This might include journaling, art, etc.) So, the retreat is open to anyone in our community who would like to follow this schedule and fully take part in the experience. Cost is $75 per person for the entire weekend. Please contact the retreat committee for more information.
